The G-PLUS Sprocket and Pulley Laser Alignment Tool is a high-precision laser alignment instrument engineered specifically for chain drive maintenance. Featuring high-brightness laser technology and a lightweight, portable design, it swiftly detects and corrects parallel offset, angular misalignment, and axial runout on sprockets. With an intuitive operation interface, a single technician can complete precise alignment in minutes, significantly reducing equipment wear and unplanned downtime.
Chain Drive
When sprockets fail to maintain parallel and aligned operation, sprocket misalignment induces lateral side loads on the chain, unilateral tooth wear, inner link plate deformation, and reduced chain life. The allowable angular misalignment for chain drives is 0.1° to 0.2°. Exceeding this allowable threshold significantly increases stress on chain drive components and, under extreme conditions, may lead to chain breakage.
When sprockets are misaligned, the chain deviates from its intended path, resulting in the following risks:
Misalignment Severity Levels, Fault Symptoms, and Mechanical Failure Mechanisms
- Mild Misalignment (< 0.2°)
- Fault Symptoms: Unilateral tooth flank wear and a gradual, hidden reduction in service life.
- Failure Mechanism: The inner link plates contact the tooth flanks laterally, creating localized stress concentrations that continuously generate abrasive wear.
- Moderate Misalignment (0.2°–0.5°)
- Fault Symptoms: Chain binding, tooth climbing, increased vibration, and operating noise.
- Failure Mechanism: Lateral loads compress the clearance between the inner and outer link plates, increasing articulation resistance, and generating cyclic impact loads during engagement.
- Severe Misalignment (> 0.5°)
- Fault Symptoms: Chain seizure, tooth skipping, and sudden chain fracture.
- Failure Mechanism: Continuous lateral loads force the inner link plates outward, causing plastic deformation and permanent pitch elongation, creating a vicious cycle of increasingly severe meshing misalignment.
